The Sydney Morning Herald had this image attached to an article about ‘social media’ coverage of the Victorian fires.
There are no words I can add to what has happened that aren’t rendered meaningless in the face of such terror and grief.
But this picture, of a couple who had been separated when she took her child out of the area and he stayed to fight the fire, neither of them knowing how bad it would get, and captured reuniting after the fear and anxiety of not knowing if they would find one another alive again, is just hauntingly beautiful:

I went to bed and I knew that around 40 people were dead from fires in Victoria. I woke up and it’s 108.
[Fuck, a few hours later and it’s now at 128. My sympathies to anyone connected to this. It’s beyond my comprehension.]
