Seriously, this week has really been tight competition with Bettina Arndt in the ring, but I think this quote from Marcio Miranda, lawyer for an Archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Brazil wins. Ms Miranda who said of the abortion undergone by a NINE YEAR OLD GIRL raped and impregnated by her stepfather:
“It’s the law of God: Do not kill. We consider this murder,”
Shut the fuck up!

To be fair, the law of God never says anything about not raping 9 year olds, it being the product of a patriarchal, misogynistic culture and all. That in and of itself should be enough to push people toward atheism, but alas, there’s stil plenty of misogyny where that came from.

The RC Church is choosing to grotesquely follow the letter instead of the spirit of “God’s law” here. They should consider the life of the girl — who might have died carrying the twins to term, and at minimum would have suffered lifelong health problems — more important than the “life” of non-sentient clumps of tissue.
